Killaloe MD

Municipal District Socio-economic Profiles (Killaloe)

Client Overview:

Killaloe Municipal District (MD) (located in East Clare) is one of four Municipal Districts in Clare. They provide many services throughout the MD, including infrastructure, maintenance and libraries, and are responsible for planning and development management in the area.

Task:

Killaloe Municipal District commissioned People and Place to create a socio-economic profile of their area, in comparison with other areas in the county and settlements in the MD.

Approach:

Using Census 2022 data, a profile of the MD was created including demographic, housing, education and economic and environmental data, with information throughout the report on key change figures. This data was displayed through charts and maps for each indicator. The settlement hierarchy listed in the Clare County Development Plan was used to create a geographical hierarchy chart, showing the different settlements across Killaloe along with the other MDs in Clare, the county and the State. This provided a measurement to compare the performance of Killaloe and its’ settlements.

Results:

The output of this project was a 60 + page report with contextual information alongside thematic maps and geographic hierarchy charts. This report is the first of its kind in Ireland and was presented to the Killaloe Municipal District member’s meeting.
